- 1/2 cup butter
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 cup self raising flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 'tablespoon cocoa
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
- Prepare a moderate oven 180 C
- Grease well a 16 1/2 cm deep round tin.
- Line base with a round of greaseproof or greased brown paper.
- Sift flour and cocoa into a mixing bowl. Add sugar, eggs, milk and essence.
- Melt the butter over gentle heat.
- Pour into ingredients in bowl and beat hard for 3 minutes.
- Pour into tin and bake for 1 hour or until judged cooked.
- Cool on cake cooler.
- When cold ice if desired.
